Stewarts Conference Facility

Major alterations were required to Stewarts Sports Hall to convert the existing sports facility into a state of the art dual purpose Sports Hall and Conference facility. Effectively the existing building was taken back to the original infill brickwork and a new steel structure installed to take the new floors, walls and roof.

The façade of the building was completely transformed utilising curtain walling to the entrance foyer and reception whilst an innovative steel frame allowed the new floors hang off the structure. The benefit of the hanging floor optimises the free span of the space, thus accommodating a dual purpose facility to maximise the Client’s use of the facility.

The featured reception consisted of architectural designed timber wall panels, polished marble floor tiles, designed lighting arrangements and architectural features commissioned by the design architect. The feature stairway was designed to “float” and was specifically made with minimal steel connection on each tread for impact.

All these works were carried out within a busy hospital campus with no disruption to the day to day business of the facility.
