Limerick Prison Education & Medical Wing
This 5 storey Educational and Medical Facility was designed and constructed to cater for 550 inmates. This highly secure facility was constructed to fulfill the Prisons Educational and Medical Care requirements for a projected 40 years. This facility incorporated many new innovative concepts that are now used by the Prison Service as standard within Irish Prisons.
These new innovative concepts include personal alarms that can track staff or inmates within the new wing. The location of this building was a huge logistical challenge for the Construction Team, It was necessary to demolish the existing building which was located in the middle of the complex, surrounded by prison wings and operational exercise yards. The new 5 storey facility required 5 different connection corridors to the existing facility. All this was completed whilst observing the Prison Services security working procedures.
